Exploration Geochemistry (2007): A ten-day short course through Laurentian University involving a number of geochemical exploration methods including planning, sampling, geochemical analysis, data handling and interpretation. Deposit type case histories included PGE’s in layered intrusions, magmatic Fe-Ni-Cu-(PGE), porphyry Cu, volcanic Cu-Zn-(Pb), Archean lode gold, sedimentary exhalative Pb-Zn-Cu and diamonds. The course was led by Dr. S. Piercey with guest lectures by Dr. M. Lecher (MERC), Dr. P. Lightfoot (INCO), Dr. E Grunsky (GSC) etc .

William S. Fyfe Short Course (2006): The Fyfe short course at Western was designed to bring those in industry and non-industry alike to the point where they understood what is involved with sustainability and realized that it requires an immediate level of consciousness from all levels of industry and academic institutions. The former part of the course was industry focused with talks by Dr. W. Fyfe, Bob Bailey (ERW) and Maureen Jensen (APGO). The latter portion of the course dealt with case scenarios including talks by Jonathon Fowler (DeBeers) and Bob Willard (Sustainability Advantage) |

Geology & mineral deposits of the Grenville (2004): A three day transect from the Adirondack Highlands across the Central Metasedimentary Belt including stops at the Grouverneur talc mine (Grouverneur Talc Company), the Balmat-Edwards zinc operations (St. Lawrence Zinc Co.), the Sanford ilmenite-hematite operations and geology of the CMB from Kaladar to Madoc. |
Structure, Tectonics and Mineral Exploration (2005): A two-week field-based course taught by Dr. B Lafrance through Laurentian University which addressed the tectonic and structural controls on the localization and genesis of mineral deposits. The lode Au districts of Northern Ontario were the main focus with emphasis placed on their regional tectonic settings, regional structural controls and local structural controls. Mapping and site visits were completed at Hemlo, Beardmore-Geraldton Belt (Leitch and Sand River gold mines) and Kirkland Lake region (Cheminis mine etc). |

Field Trips |
Sudbury Nickel Belt (2005): A three day trip through the Ni-PGE districts in the Sudbury area including stops at Pacific Northwest’s active exploration program on the River Valley Intrusion, an INCO-led tour of the Sudbury Basin and its offset dykes, the Alban kyanite quartzites and the French River Nepheline Syenites. |
Micromine (2007): A two-day introductory course to the program Micromine which involved the basic functions of the program including setting up a project, plotting drillhole traces adding interval geochemistry data etc. |
Geology and Metallogeny of the Grenville Province (2005): The Grenville short course was an SEG function led by myself, Dr. N. Duke, Sarah Johnston and several others to help expose some of the economic possibilities and geological conundrums of the Grenville Province. A number of speakers from across Canada attended to speak including Dr. T. Rivers (Memorial), Dr. C Gower ( Geological Survey of Newfoundland and Labrador), Dr. L Corriveau (Commission Géologique du Canada), Dr. M Easton (OGS), Dr. M Gauthier (Université du Québec à Montréal), Dr. A. Tomkins (University of Calgary), Dr. Serge Perreault ( Ministére des Ressources Naturelles et de la Faune Direction de Géologie) and Dr. Pam Sangster (OGS) |
Southwest USA (2002 & 2003): Two 8-10 day fieldtrips to the southwestern part of the United States. Stops included the Oatman epithermal district, Bagdad Cu/Mo deposit (Phelps Dodge), Jerome volcanigenic massive sulphide deposit, Cu/U breccias pipes, detachment faults, geology of the Grand Canyon, Sunset Crator and a number of stops at young continental volcanic and sedimentary rocks. |
Cornwall, England (2004): A ten day fieldtrip to investigate the geology and tin & china clay districts of Cornwall. Included stops at Cligga Head, Delabole slate quarry, Roche Rock, St. Michael’s Mount, wheal Edward, Wheal Botallack, Godolphin granite and the Lizard Ophiolite Complex. |
