The Bathurst, Back River and Regan Lake areas are host to a number of Au in iron formation and VHMS showings. I spent a summer in this area of Nunavut gathering data for a B.Sc. thesis in conjunction with Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated. The area at which I spent most of my time was in the Crazy Bear Metamorphic Complex. Most of the rocks are sillimanite-grade metamorphosed wackes, argillites and iron formation intruded by late pegmatites and granitoids. Au is located in silicate-facies iron formation overprinted by garnet, grunerite, pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite. |
